UCSB Buzzer Beater - Fans storm the court

November 28th, 2007 ·

I’ve blogged before about how UCSB students love to celebrate their infrequent athletic accomplishments. It happened again last night. UCSB renewed their old college hoops rivalry with UNLV last night. The Gauchos actually won on a buzzer-beater. In true UCSB fashion, the fans reacted like they had just won the NCAA tournament and stormed the court. Roll the video…

So long Marco

November 18th, 2007 ·

Long-time Oakland Athletic Marco Scutaro was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays today. Scutaro had an incredible number of clutch, late-inning hits for the A’s over the years. So long Marco. You will be missed. Discussion over at Athletics Nation.

Rock-tober

October 17th, 2007 ·

I am not a fan of the Rockies but I need to tip my hat to what they have done since mid-September. Amazing.

Update:
Hey ESPN - why do you make your videos embeddable if you’re just going to expire them after a couple of days? Please re-think this.

Hank Aaron’s Speech after HR #756

August 9th, 2007 ·

Hammerin’ Hank’s speech after Barry Bonds broke the record, followed by Barry’s speech.

The full transcript of Hank Aaron’s speech:

“I would like to offer my congratulations to Barry Bonds on becoming baseball’s career home run leader. It is a great accomplishment which required skill, longevity and determination,” Aaron said.

“Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in baseball, and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family on this historic historical achievement.

“My hope today, as it was on that April evening in 1974, is that the achievement of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams.”

Here’s a photo of Hank Aaron’s jersey that I took last month at FanFest:

Yahoo! Sports Mocks Bonds’ HR Record

August 7th, 2007 ·

Yahoo Sports! pulled a smart-ass move tonight. Shortly after Bonds hit HR #756, they posted a photo of Bonds with the number 756 followed by an asterisk. They removed the asterisk about a half hour later. They also featured a ‘Got Steroids’ photo with a link to a real hatchet job by columnist Dan Wetzel. See below for the before and after images.
